Our Programs
OUTREACH
Puppet Show: The Importance of Water
Join Woody the Tree, Barry the Beaver, and Ted the Turtle as
they introduce the water cycle, human impacts on the environment and
ways of helping to conserve our water.
Mammals Can Fly Who am I?
This program follows an interactive journey that demystifies
the lives of bats. The program describes bat behaviour and ecology,
with an emphasis on bats in our region. Current concerns related to bat
conservation are introduced and common bat myths are dispelled
Touch Table and Discovery Boxes
Learn about our natural history in a fun explorative way.
Our Nature Interpreters come into your school to present a minimum of 4
touch table topics to your group. Students explore through each of the
tables for 20 minute rotations. Each table is set up with artifacts and
collections surrounding a specific topic. Topics may include: mammals,
fish, birds, insects, amphibians & reptiles, habitat and adaptation,
fur-feathers & skins, rocks and minerals, plants, wetlands, lifecycles and more.
Fur, Feathers, Scales and Skin
Using objects and artifacts students will be introduced to
the different types of animal coverings. We will look at why and how
they differ, what happens when the animal grows and special adaptations
Animals Have Class
Through hands-on investigation children learn about the
similarities and differences between mammals, reptiles, amphibians,
birds and fish. Identify and†classify animal groups by their appearance,
growth and internal attributes.
Ribbon of Life
An interactive program introduces the concept of the ìribbon
of lifeî; a highly productive ecosystem lining our waterways and
shorelines. Children will learn about the importance of this area for
wildlife habitat, as well as its function as a natural filter for
pollutants and buffer against erosion.
Travelling Exhibit (under construction)
ON-SITE
Soil Studies gr 4 & 5
Students will investigate, analyze and discuss the
following: Soil profiles, classifying soil types, the importance of
organic matter in soils,.
Introduction to Ecosystems gr 4-7
This program will overview interactions between abiotic
and biotic including the water cycle, food chains, decay, disease,
habitats and Ecotones, animal†adaptations and forest succession. A
guided trail walk will be conducted to investigate examples of
ecosystems and their components.
Tree Identification gr 7 & 8
In this program, students will examine how people and
natural ecosystems rely on trees. They will discuss characteristics that
can be used to identify trees and diseases in trees.
Water Systems gr8 (not available yet)†
Students will investigate, analyze, and discuss the
following: the importance of fresh water to the sustainability of life
on earth, watersheds, water bodies and tributaries, the Water Cycle,
wetlands, pollution and steps to stop pollution in our surrounding
lakes, rivers and ponds.
Biodiversity Trail Walk K-12
Students will be introduced to the concept of
biodiversity. The impact of pollution, invasive species, populations,
weather and disease will be discussed. Students will have the
opportunity to visit and compare natural habitats at Gamiing through
activities and monitoring stations throughout the trail system.
Ethical Wildcrafting K-8
Students will use ethical methods of harvesting materials from nature to make crafts.
Pond Study gr 2-8
Students will investigate, analyze and discuss the
following: Ribbon of Life/Riparian Zones, Food chains, Life cycles (Pond
life cycle, frog, dragonfly etc)-Learn about life cycles and how they
react to change in environment, Aquatic invertebrates study, the Water
Cycle, and Erosion ñProblems and†Solutions.
Orienteering g r3-8
Students will be introduced to essential orienteering
concepts, such as identifying features and positions on maps, and
calculating distance using pacing factor.†We will then take to our trail
system, where the proper use of compasses will be demonstrated so that
one may orient themselves by setting declination and finding needle
match.†
Geology Rocks! gr 3-8
Investigate rocks, minerals and how they are formed.
Students will learn to classify different types of rocks and minerals
through hands-on activities and a guided hike.
Sustainability gr 9 -12
Students will discuss of the concept of sustainability
and the challenges we face in finding a balance between our current
economic, cultural and ecological needs with those needs of future
generations.†An on-site trail walk will demonstrate real world examples
of sustainability, as we visit our straw-bale building, rain-water
collection system, naturalized shoreline and forest ecosystem .
Nature Club
Nature Club is an informal hands-on science enrichment program.
Age: for children ages 8-13*
Time: 10am to 12pm, the first Saturday of every month.
Each session we will study a different topic at the
property. Through hands-on investigation we will explore ecosystems,
lakeshore life, weather, climate, and more.

Summer Nature Camp
Our camp program focuses on discoveries in the natural
world, be it in the forest, the wetland or meadows. New discoveries are
made each day. Exploration of habitats, animal tracking and learning
survival skills will help campers understand our place in nature and
have fun doing it! Each day starts in the Discovery Shack with a game
that relates to the theme of the day and the Camp will be concluded with
a Show for parents, friends, and relatives.
Age: for children ages 6-12
Time: Nature Camp runs for the month of July in weekly sessions: 9:00amó3:30pm.
